A programme featuring distribution of clothes and toiletries among resident children, unveiling of a wall magazine and a cultural performance was held at the Integrated Child Rehabilitation Centre in Cox’s Bazar ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
The event was organised under the slogan: “Children should no longer remain at risk of violence; the Integrated Child Rehabilitation Centre stands beside them.”
Member of Parliament, Lutfur Rahman Kazal, attended the program as the chief guest.
Speaking at the event, the lawmaker said the arrangement reflected the government’s commitment to standing beside underprivileged children.
He said the rehabilitation center was working to improve the living standards of disadvantaged children by providing them with shelter and various facilities; he described the initiative under the Ministry of Social Welfare as commendable.
The MP also pledged support in mobilising assistance for the rehabilitation center through the UPAZILA administration and other channels.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Mamnun Ahmed Anik chaired the programme.
Among others, Mohammad Shahi Newaz, deputy director of the district social services office; Jesmin Akter, deputy project director of the rehabilitation centre; and Moazzem Hossain, deputy director of the Department of Youth Development, addressed the event.
Officials from various professions and different government and non-government organisations attended the programme.
Later, Eid-ul-Azha gifts were distributed among the 200 underprivileged children residing at the center.
The programme concluded with a cultural performance presented by the resident children.
