Thousands of devotees joined the main Eid congregation held at the central Eidgah ground in the morning.
The main congregation began at 7:30am, led by Maulana Mufti Sulaiman Qasemi. In his sermon, he stressed the importance of Eid-ul-Azha, the spirit of sacrifice, and the values of humanity. Special prayers were also offered seeking an end to oppression, violence, and persecution against Muslims in different parts of the world.
A second congregation was held at 8:30am, led by Rahmat Salam, principal of Hashemia Madrasa.
Among those present at the Eidgah ground were Lutfur Rahman Kajol, Md A Mannan, the municipal administrator, and people from different walks of life. They urged residents to dispose of sacrificial waste at designated places after performing Qurbani.
MP Lutfur Rahman Kajol greeted residents on the occasion of Eid and requested that they not dump waste into drains and canals. He also called upon everyone to celebrate Eid while keeping the town clean and maintaining communal harmony.
Deputy Commissioner Md A Mannan said that 134 metric tonnes of salt had been distributed across the district. He urged people to properly preserve sacrificial animal hides and to share the joy of Eid with the poor and underprivileged.
Chief Executive Officer of Cox’s Bazar municipality, Adnan Chowdhury, said that around 300 workers from 13 teams would work from noon until 10:00pm to remove sacrificial waste from different parts of the town.
