Continuous rainfall triggered by the south-west monsoon has transformed the coastal resort town of Cox’s Bazar, draping its streets, beachfront, and public spaces in a distinctly monsoon landscape.
The rain has brought a sense of calm to the tourist city, starting in the morning and continuing intermittently throughout the day. Dark clouds hovering over the sky, cool breezes, and the rhythmic sound of rainfall have created a tranquil atmosphere across the town.
One of the most striking scenes was at Laboni Point, the heart of Cox’s Bazar’s tourism zone, where visitors and residents gathered to enjoy the rain-washed surroundings.
Many tourists strolled with umbrellas, while others embraced the rain to capture photographs and videos of the season’s beauty.
Jihad Mahmud, a tourist from Dhaka, said the beauty of Cox’s Bazar during the monsoon was unlike any other time of the year.
“He said it is truly remarkable to watch the sea in the rain and experience the town’s atmosphere,” he added.
According to Md Abdul Hannan, assistant meteorologist at the Cox’s Bazar Meteorological Office, the current rainy spell is the result of the south-west monsoon, which has formally entered Bangladesh through the Cox’s Bazar coast.
He said rainfall had increased across the district due to active monsoon conditions and was likely to continue over the coming days.
‘Moderate to heavy rainfall may occur in different parts of the district in the coming days. Sea conditions may also remain rough, and fishing boats and other vessels have been advised to exercise caution,’ he added.
With the arrival of the monsoon, Cox’s Bazar has taken on a fresh and vibrant appearance, offering visitors a different perspective of the world’s longest natural sandy beach and its surrounding landscape.
The season’s first sustained rains have not only brought relief from the recent heat but have also revived the natural beauty that makes the coastal town one of Bangladesh’s most popular destinations.
