A low-pressure system has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas, prompting authorities to ask four maritime ports, including Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar, to hoist local cautionary signal No. 3.
The system may cause squally weather over the maritime ports, the north Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.
Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra ports have been advised to keep local cautionary signal No. 3 hoisted.
Fishing boats and trawlers operating in the north Bay have also been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
Assistant meteorologist at the Cox’s Bazar Meteorological Office, Abdul Hannan, confirmed the development.
Meanwhile, Cox’s Bazar experienced heavy rain from the early hours of the morning under the influence of the low-pressure system. The rain eased as the morning progressed and gave way to sunshine. The district is now experiencing bright sunshine.
Considering the weather conditions, seagoing vessels and fishing trawlers have been advised to operate with caution.
