Cox’s Bazar has remained rainy towards the end of the monsoon, with rainfall continuing since last night. Despite the rain, a considerable number of tourists have gathered at the beach on Friday, the weekly holiday.
There is currently no warning signal at the maritime port. However, as the sea remains rough, red flags have been hoisted along the beach, indicating that bathing is unsafe.
Despite the warning, tourists have been entering the water mainly at the three designated points — Kolatoli, Laboni and Sugandha. Sea-Safe lifeguards have urged tourists to follow safety instructions while bathing.
According to the lifeguards, designated bathing areas have been marked at the three points where lifeguard services are available. The boundaries of these areas have been marked with red-and-yellow or red flags. Tourists have been warned that entering the water outside the designated areas could be dangerous.
Mohammad Osman Gani, supervisor and senior lifeguard of Sea-Safe Lifeguard, told Cox’s Bazar Life that the sea was rough and red flags had been hoisted along the beach.
“The beach has become eroded in several places due to the continuous rainfall, while holes and channels have also formed in some areas. Everyone is urged to remain cautious and follow the advice of the lifeguards,” he said.
According to the tidal forecast, high tide is expected from 2:01 pm on Friday, while low tide is expected at 8:18 pm.
Those concerned warned that ignoring warning signals or lifeguard instructions and entering the water could lead to serious accidents at any time.
