A FIFA-funded international-standard technical centre of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) is set to be built in Ramu of Cox’s Bazar, with 15 acres of government-allocated land formally handed over to the federation on Monday.
The land was formally handed over at a ceremony held at Hotel Long Beach in Cox’s Bazar at around 12:30pm on Monday.
BFF president Tabith Awal signed the registration documents on behalf of the federation, while Cox’s Bazar deputy commissioner Md AMannan signed on behalf of the government. The deputy commissioner later handed over the necessary documents to the BFF president.
Cox’s Bazar superintendent of police ANM Shajadur Rahman, BFF officials, and other concerned people were present at the ceremony.
Tabith Awal said the government had allocated the 15 acres in Ramu for the construction of the BFF technical centre following the prime minister’s directive.
The Cox’s Bazar district administration formally handed over the land to the federation, he said, adding that plans were also underway to promote sports tourism alongside tourism in the district.
The BFF president thanked the prime minister for facilitating the initiative and expressed gratitude to the deputy commissioner, superintendent of police and others involved in the process.
He said establishing an international-standard football technical centre in Ramu would mark a significant milestone in advancing football in Bangladesh.
Talented footballers from different parts of the country would have access to modern and structured training facilities at the centre, he said.
Tabith also said the centre would play an important role in strengthening Bangladeshi football internationally.
The facility would create opportunities for national- and international-standard training programmes and help develop young footballers, he said.
People concerned said building the BFF technical centre in Ramu, near the tourism hub of Cox’s Bazar, could create new local opportunities while contributing to football infrastructure development.
They said it could also help expand football training and talent identification programmes across the country.
