The dengue situation in Cox’s Bazar is currently under control, the district health department says. However, health officials have urged people to stay cautious as dengue cases have been rising in September.
Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital superintendent Dr Mong Tingnyo said 115 dengue patients had been diagnosed in the district so far this month, including 15 in the past 24 hours.
He said the hospital was providing necessary treatment to patients arriving.
Rohingya patients are receiving treatment through specialised healthcare services operated by different organisations in the camps, he added.
According to data from the Cox’s Bazar Civil Surgeon’s Office, 3,856 people have been diagnosed with dengue in the district from January 1 to September 13 this year.
Meanwhile, six Rohingya people have died from dengue so far this year. The deaths occurred in the Rohingya camps between January 1 and September 13, according to the health department.
Health officials said dengue prevention should not depend solely on treatment and stressed the need to destroy mosquito breeding grounds.
They urged residents to regularly remove stagnant water from homes and surrounding areas and to seek medical advice promptly if dengue symptoms develop.
