Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has opened two new Temporary Operational Bases (TOBs) along the Myanmar border in Naikhongchhari, Bandarban, to strengthen surveillance and operational capabilities in the border area.

The newly constructed TOBs were inaugurated at Arachhatla Tila and Haturani Tila in Ghumdhum union of Naikhongchhari upazila on Wednesday morning.

Brigadier General Kazi Shamsher Uddin, commander of the BGB Cox’s Bazar Region, formally inaugurated the two bases.

During the visit, he inspected various facilities at the TOBs and instructed BGB personnel deployed there to perform their duties with maximum alertness, professionalism and efficiency to ensure border security.

According to BGB, the two new TOBs will make surveillance and patrols more effective in remote and vulnerable areas along the border. They will also strengthen BGB’s capacity to prevent drug trafficking and smuggling, stop illegal crossings and ensure the safety and security of people living near the border.

The bases will also enable BGB personnel to respond more quickly to any situation along the border, the force said.

Ramu Sector commander Colonel Md Anwar-ul-Alam and Cox’s Bazar Battalion 34 BGB commander Lieutenant Colonel SM Khairul Alam, among other BGB officers and personnel, attended the inauguration ceremony.
