Police arrested a female student with 20,000 yaba pills during a raid at Dolonchapa Women’s Hostel of Cox’s Bazar Government College on Sunday night.
The student, identified as Sharifa, 21, is a third-year mathematics student at the college. She is from Hnila in Teknaf upazila.
Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Mohammad Ali said police conducted the raid at the hostel with the assistance of college authorities based on a tip-off.
“Twenty thousand yaba pills were recovered from Sharifa’s possession during the raid,” he said.
According to the OC, Sharifa told police during preliminary questioning that an aunt had allegedly sent the yaba from Hnila in a parcel and that the drugs were subsequently kept in her possession.
Police suspect that a larger drug trafficking network may be involved and are working to identify and arrest others allegedly connected with the network, Sheikh Mohammad Ali said.
Police said legal proceedings are underway in connection with the seizure.
