The body of student leader Isfatul Islam Jisan, 28, was recovered from the roadside in Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar, around four hours after he was allegedly abducted, with his hands and legs tied.
Jisan was the senior joint convener of Kakara union unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal. He was the son of Nazem Uddin of South Lotoni area in Ward 3 of Kakara union.
Family members said unidentified people picked Jisan up in a white microbus from in front of a shop at Kakara Majher Station around 11:30 pm on Sunday.
Jisan’s father, Nazem Uddin, alleged that his son was taken to Kabir Tower in the Sabujbagh area of Ward 4 in Chakaria municipality, where he was tortured before being killed. He alleged that the body was later dumped beside the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway in the Kachchhapia Dhala area.
Police later recovered the body from the roadside during the night. There were injury marks on different parts of his body, according to the family.
Ismail Hossain, operations officer of Chakaria police station, said police had recovered Jisan’s body.
“The body will be handed over to his family after the necessary legal procedures and autopsy,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chhatra Dal leaders in Cox’s Bazar have condemned the killing and demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible.
Rezaul Karim Bappi, president of Chakaria upazila Chhatra Dal, said Jisan was an active and promising leader of the organisation.
He demanded that those involved be identified and arrested within 24 hours, warning of a tougher movement on the streets with general students if the demand was not met.
Fahimur Rahman, president of Cox’s Bazar district Chhatra Dal, said Jisan had been “brutally killed” and demanded a proper investigation and justice in the case.
