A deep depression over the North Andaman Sea and adjoining Myanmar coast has weakened into a depression after crossing the coast near Myanmar’s Kyaikto area, prompting the Bangladesh Meteorological Department to maintain local cautionary signal No. 3 at the Cox’s Bazar and Chattogram seaports.

The depression was located over the southeastern Bay of Bengal and adjoining northeastern Bay of Bengal at 6:00 am on Tuesday, September 29. It was centred at 18.8 degrees north latitude and 96.0 degrees east longitude.

The system is expected to move north-northwestwards and gradually weaken further, according to the weather department.

Under its influence, rain and gusty winds may occur in Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram and adjoining coastal areas.

The weather department said the Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar seaports and northeastern and adjoining coastal areas may experience gusty winds.

Fishing boats and trawlers operating in the northeastern Bay of Bengal have been advised not to venture into the deep sea until further notice and to proceed with caution near the depression.

Cox’s Bazar Meteorological Office assistant meteorologist Abdul Hannan confirmed the information.
