The growing demand for bottled drinks and water among tourists has created a thriving scrap trade in Cox’s Bazar. At a scrap business on Bus Terminal Road, workers were seen separating plastic bottle caps from bottles collected from hotels. Manager Farid Hossain said they buy used plastic bottles from around 26 hotels and resorts at Tk1.25 each and supply them to Dhaka by weight. Bottle caps fetch Tk56 per kilogram, while bottles sell for Tk34. He also buys scrap from around 40 street vendors.
