For years, Cox’s Bazar entrepreneur Alhaj Abul Bashar Abu has worked to expand the local tourism industry and create jobs through his business and various social initiatives.
His contributions have recently earned him national recognition, as he received the ‘Global Star Award 2025’ for his role in entrepreneurship development, employment generation, contribution to industry, and social responsibility.
Under Abu’s leadership, Hotel Sea World Cox’s Bazar has been providing accommodation to tourists while creating employment opportunities for local people. Alongside his business activities, he has also supported various educational, religious, and humanitarian initiatives.
Abu built his career around the tourism sector as Cox’s Bazar’s hospitality industry expanded with rising tourist arrivals and investment. His activities have combined business operations with efforts to create opportunities for local community members.
According to the organizers, Abu was selected for the award in recognition of his contributions to entrepreneurship development, job creation, the industrial sector, and social responsibility.
The award was presented to him at a ceremony recently held at Dhaka Regency Hotel in the capital. Former information and broadcasting minister Zahir Uddin Swapan, entrepreneurs, professionals and guests from different sectors attended the programme.
Chief adviser of the organisation and former information secretary Syed Margub Morshed, Rangamati-1 MP Dipen Dewan and Nazrul Sangeet researcher and artiste Ferdous Ara, among others, spoke at the event.
Reacting to the recognition, Abu said the award was not merely a personal achievement but also belonged to his colleagues, well-wishers and others who had supported him over the years.
“This recognition is not just my personal achievement. It belongs to my colleagues, well-wishers and everyone who has supported me over the years,” he said.
He said an entrepreneur’s success becomes meaningful when their work contributes to people’s welfare.
The recognition has drawn congratulations from Abu’s colleagues, business leaders, well-wishers and representatives of various social and cultural organisations.
Those involved in the local tourism sector said the national recognition was also a matter of pride for Cox’s Bazar’s tourism industry and its entrepreneurs.
