Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel seized 200,000 yaba tablets in two separate anti-narcotics operations along the Ghumdhum and Baishphari borders in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban, detaining two Rohingya men in one of the operations.

According to a press release issued by the Cox’s Bazar Battalion (34 BGB), a patrol team from the Ghumdhum Border Outpost conducted an operation at Jamal’s Gher, around 200 yards inside Bangladesh from border pillar 32, at about 9:00pm on October 10.

During the operation, the team detained two Rohingya men, identified as Md Islam, 25, son of Md Hossain, and Md Mojibullah, 23, son of Md Jalil. Both were residents of Block B/81 and Block B/74, respectively, at FDMN Camp 8. The patrol recovered 10,000 yaba tablets from them.

In a separate operation at around 4:00am on October 11, a special patrol team from the Baishphari Border Outpost recovered 190,000 yaba tablets abandoned at Madhyapara, around 100 yards inside Bangladesh from border pillar 35. No one was detained in connection with the second seizure.

The press release said the two detained men will be handed over to police after cases are filed under the relevant laws, while further legal proceedings are underway regarding the seized yaba tablets.

Lieutenant Colonel SM Khairul Alam, PBGM, psc, commanding officer of Cox’s Bazar Battalion (34 BGB), confirmed the operations.

He said BGB was committed to preventing drug trafficking and smuggling alongside its responsibility for border security. Such operations would continue to stop drug trafficking across the border and protect young people from the harmful effects of drugs, he added.

The battalion operates under the Ramu Sector of the Cox’s Bazar Region.
