‘Atikka Pitha’ is a beloved traditional binni rice cake from the Chittagong region. The word ‘Atikka’ comes from the regional Chittagonian dialect, meaning ‘sometimes,’ as this pitha is only made on special occasions.
Pankaj, a local vendor, shared with Cox’s Bazar Life the process of making this delicious treat.
It begins by soaking binni rice for two hours, followed by washing and draining it thoroughly. The rice is then mixed with coconut and sugar, wrapped in banana leaves, and steamed for 30 minutes over medium heat, resulting in the delightful Atikka Pitha.
This pitha is especially popular in Cox’s Bazar, where it’s enjoyed in many rural areas for its unique flavor and cultural significance.
