The Myanmar Navy has handed over 58 fishermen seized from the Bangladeshi part of the Bay of Bengal between St. Martin Island and Myanmar to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on the Shahparir Dwip jetty in Teknaf on October 10.
The Myanmar Navy’s open fire, among them, claimed one life and injured two more.
Teknaf Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Adnan Chowdhury confirmed the matter.
He announced the release of all six trawlers, 58 fishermen, and the deceased one from Myanmar.
The deceased is Osman Gani, Bacha Mia’s son, a Konapara, Shahparirdwip resident in Teknaf.
Earlier, on October 9, at noon, in the Bangladeshi part of the Bay of Bengal between St. Martin Island and Myanmar, the Myanmar Navy shot at a Bangladeshi fishing boat and detained 50–60 fishermen, including 6 trawlers.
One fisherman died in this incident, and two others sustained gunshot injuries.
