Tanbirul Miraj Ripon, an independent journalist and the only Bangladeshi Journalists in International Media (BJIM) member from Cox’s Bazar, has established himself as a distinctive figure in international journalism and his film production and music work.
In a recent conversation with Cox’s Bazar Life, Ripon shared his vision for his hometown’s future.
He said Cox’s Bazar boasts many hotels, resorts, and rooms yet lacks international-standard entertainment facilities. The town has enormous potential to become the country’s natural tourism hub.
Ripon stressed the need to reduce radical groups’ influence and convert Cox’s Bazar into a tourist-friendly and humanitarian city. He feels that tourist safety should be a top focus.
He noted that Cox’s Bazar’s rich biodiversity deserves special protection, and qualified personnel must be carefully recruited to safeguard its environment.
Ripon also pushed for forming a special commission for Cox’s Bazar that would operate independently, unfettered by governmental changes, and provide police with specialized training tailored to the region’s specific requirements.
He advocated and proposed a research center focusing on issues related to the Rohingya, Myanmar, Northeast India, the blue economy, and the sea.
Ripon advised Cox’s Bazar to update its airport, seaport, and municipal administration to world standards if it realized its potential as a top tourism hub.
