The 22-day government-imposed fishing ban, aimed at ensuring hilsa breeding, ends at midnight tonight. Over the past three weeks, around 100,000 fishermen across Cox’s Bazar district have been out of work, using this time to repair nets, trawlers, and engines in preparation.
With the ban lifted, they are hopeful to catch enough fish to pay off their debts. The dream of a bountiful Hilsa catch fills them with anticipation as they wait to cast their nets again.
The government prohibited the catching, transportation, sale, and storage of hilsa from October 13 to November 3. Fishermen now eagerly await the opportunity to bring in their prized hilsa.
