The farmers of Moheshkhali have successfully cultivated a new variety of Aman rice, BRRI Dhan-90.

Muhammad Habibullah, a farmer from Borochhara village in Hoanak Union, took the initiative to trial this promising rice variety. Encouraged by his remarkable yield, the Department of Agricultural Extension organized a “Field Day” in Borochhara to showcase his success, with around 100 farmers attending.

Sharing his experience, Habibullah said that he had received seeds from the agriculture office and planted BRRI Dhan-90 on 40 decimals of land for the first time.

“Initially, I was apprehensive about achieving the desired yield. However, I am delighted to harvest 900 kilograms of rice quickly and at a lower cost,” he added.

Saiful Islam, an Assistant Agricultural Officer, highlighted the unique qualities of BRRI Dhan-90.

“This variety matures in just 117 days, has sturdy stalks that resist lodging and is highly adaptable to coastal areas. Additionally, it requires less pesticide and fertilizer, significantly reducing cultivation costs for farmers,” he added.

Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer Md. Anwar Hossain said BRRI Dhan-90 is an aromatic, premium-quality variety similar to Chinigura rice. If farmers are interested in cultivating this variety, we can provide them with constant support and guidance.
