The United Nations has underscored the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of journalists in Bangladesh, affirming their right to carry out their work without fear.
“The safety and well-being of journalists anywhere in the world is of critical importance, particularly in countries undergoing transitions,” said Stephane Dujarric, Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, during a media briefing.
Dujarric made these comments in response to a journalist’s inquiry about recent attacks on the East West Media Group and the vandalism at their offices.
He emphasized that it is crucial for journalists to be allowed to perform their duties freely and that those who perpetrate violence against them should be held accountable.
On Monday afternoon, unidentified individuals attacked the East West Media Group office located in Dhaka’s Bashundhara Residential Area.
