Cox’s Bazar, August 23, 2024 — As the monsoon season draws to a close, Cox’s Bazar has been hit with three consecutive days of relentless rainfall, leading to widespread flooding across the district. Hundreds of villages have been submerged, leaving communities stranded and in dire need of assistance.
Tragedy struck in Ramu, where the bodies of two individuals who were swept away by the powerful currents of the Bankkhali River have been recovered. The search continues for two more people who were also reported missing after being carried away by the floodwaters in Ramu. Additionally, one person is feared lost after falling from a gum boat during a journey from Cox’s Bazar to Maheshkhali.
The Meteorological Office has warned that the flood situation in the region is likely to worsen in the coming days, raising concerns over further loss of life and property damage. Local authorities are urging residents in vulnerable areas to evacuate and seek safer ground as rescue and relief efforts are ramped up.
