The Election Commission (EC) of Bangladesh has adopted a vigilant stance to prevent the inclusion of Rohingyas in the ongoing voter list update. As part of this effort, the EC has introduced a dedicated hotline service for reporting such attempts.

In a press release issued on Thursday (November 28), Mohammad Asadul Haque, Deputy Director of the EC’s Public Relations Department, shared the information with the media.

The statement highlighted that Rohingyas have recently been found engaging in illicit attempts to acquire National Identity (NID) cards at various district and upazila election offices across the country.

However, as per the Voter List Act, 2009 (Section 7(1)(a)), only Bangladeshi citizens are eligible to be included in the voter list.

Asadul Haque further mentioned that certain unscrupulous individuals and brokers are aiding Rohingyas in this illegal endeavor, which is a punishable offense under the Voter List Act, 2009, and the National Identity Registration Act, 2010.

The EC has urged the public to report any instance of Rohingyas or other foreign nationals attempting to obtain NID cards.

Anyone can submit reports to local upazila, district, or regional election offices, or to the EC Secretariat through the following channels:
