Cox’s Bazar hosted a consultation and dissemination meeting on the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) of the Government Shrimp Estate in Chakaria.
The Sustainable Coastal and Marine Fisheries Project, a division of the District Fisheries Department, hosted the meeting on Monday morning in a city conference hall.
Dr. Mohammad Abdur Rouf, Director General of the Department of Fisheries, attended the event as the chief guest. Additional Director General Md. Zia Haider Chowdhury presided over the session, with special guests including Project Director Md Abdus Sattar and Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin.
In his welcome speech, District Fisheries Officer Md. Badruzzaman highlighted the importance of sustainable practices in shrimp farming.
The event was attended by officials from environmental, administrative, and fisheries departments, as well as stakeholders from the shrimp industry.
Discussions focused on innovative technologies for environmentally friendly shrimp farming, improved management practices, processing, quality control, and efficient marketing systems.
The meeting underscored the commitment to sustainable shrimp farming practices, aiming to balance environmental preservation with economic growth in the coastal region.
