Photographs of rare bird species near Shaibal Point in Cox’s Bazar recently sparked speculation that migratory birds have begun to arrive in the coastal region as winter approaches.
It is believed that thousands of migratory birds flock to Cox’s Bazar from countries like India, Pakistan, Thailand, Siberia, Central Asia, Russia, and Myanmar as winter begins, especially after the Bengali month of Kartik.
Vibrant bird species can be found in areas such as Khurushkul, Varuakhali, Inani, Himchari, Choufaldandi, Pokkhali, Shiradia, Teknaf beachside, Nazirartek, and Sonadia. Among them are herons, sandpipers, doves, seagulls, pelicans, storks, and various ducks, like the whistling duck and the pochard.
Experts emphasize the need for a safe environment for these migratory birds. Hunting or habitat destruction could jeopardize this natural phenomenon, depriving the region of its ecological and aesthetic charm.
This annual spectacle captivates visitors. “It’s not just a feast for the eyes but also a balm for the soul. We urge everyone to protect this natural beauty,” said a tourist.
With winter intensifying, the number of migratory birds is expected to grow, offering an even more enchanting experience for nature lovers visiting Cox’s Bazar.
