The Bangladesh Railway’s decision to introduce two permanent trains, Saikat Express and Probal Express, on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar route has relieved Cox’s Bazar residents. Starting February 1, 2025, the trains will operate regularly, ensuring smoother connectivity between these key destinations.

Earlier, the railway authorities had halted the special train on this route, citing engine and manpower shortages, causing significant distress among locals. However, following widespread demands and protests, the railway resumed operations and permanently stationed these two trains for the route.

Expressing gratitude, HM Nazrul Islam, Member Secretary of the Cox’s Bazar Citizens’ Movement and a key figure in the protest against the train closure told Cox’s Bazar Life, “The previous government made an autocratic decision to terminate the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar train service.

The current government, however, has recognized the importance of our demand and introduced two trains. This decision will strengthen the connection between Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar and bring significant progress to our tourism industry.”

Golam Rabbani, Station Master of Cox’s Bazar’s iconic railway station, stated, “To ensure safe and comfortable travel for residents and tourists in this region, Bangladesh Railway has decided to operate two pairs of trains on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar-Chattogram route. Starting February 1, this service will greatly benefit the local population and enhance tourist experiences.”

The introduction of these trains is expected to bolster the tourism sector and facilitate seamless travel, contributing to the region’s socio-economic development.
