Cox’s Bazar Government High School, one of the district’s most historic educational institutions, celebrates its 150th anniversary with year-long programs.
As part of the sesquicentennial celebrations, the alumni association organized a handwriting competition titled “High School with Beautiful Handwriting.” Five schools in Cox’s Bazar town participated in the event.
Shahjan Chowdhury, an alumni association member, shared that 150 students will receive prizes, including educational supplies, to encourage the practice of beautiful handwriting among children.
Yasir Arafat, another organizer, remarked, “Cox’s Bazar High School is not just an institution; it’s a treasure of the district. Its contribution to education in the region is unparalleled. We believe other students in the district should know this school’s history, which is why we organized this event.”
The school’s Shaheed Shah Alam-Bashir Auditorium will host the award distribution on Saturday, January 25. According to the alumni association, the event promises to be a grand affair.
Hossain Brothers, a prominent stationery store in Cox’s Bazar, sponsors the event. Sheikh Ashiquzzaman, proprietor of Hossain Brothers, said, “It’s an honour for Hossain Brothers, which is celebrating 50 years of service, to be part of such a significant initiative organized by a historic institution.”
The 150th-anniversary celebrations began on December 31 with unveiling a graffiti mural and distributing blankets to the needy. The year-long festivities will conclude with a grand ceremony later this year, marking the culmination of this historic milestone.
