For the first time, Cox’s Bazar is set to host the three-day ‘Burning Crab Festival,’ which will kick off on Wednesday (January 29) and run until January 31. Inspired by the world-famous Burning Man Festival in Nevada, this event will feature stellar performances by local and international artists, captivating art installations, unique structures, and cultural exhibitions.
A Festival Illuminating the Shores
The grand celebration will take place at the eco-friendly Mermaid Beach Resort, located on Pechardwip Beach along Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive. The highlight of the festival is a massive red crab-shaped stage constructed next to a 300-foot-long swimming pool, which serves as the event’s signature icon.
World-Class Performances & Immersive Experiences
According to Anisul Haque Chowdhury, Managing Director of Mermaid Eco-Tourism Ltd., the festival promises a memorable experience for attendees. The festival will transport visitors into a realm of creativity through music, dance, food festivals, art displays, and dazzling light installations. The event’s curator, Jiro Endo, is a globally renowned Japanese festival architect and lighting designer, bringing a world-class touch to the festival.
Cinema, Cuisine & Celebration
The event will feature a special screening of the internationally acclaimed Bangladeshi film Boli: The Wrestler, which won the prestigious Busan International Film Festival. Additionally, the festival will offer exquisite cuisine and beverages curated by top chefs nationwide.
‘Burning Crab’—Inspired by Burning Man
Modeled after the legendary Burning Man Festival held annually in Black Rock City, Nevada, the Burning Crab Festival embodies creativity, freedom, and a vibrant artistic spirit. Organizers believe this event will provide an unparalleled experience for tourists and introduce a new dimension to the cultural and tourism landscape of Cox’s Bazar.
