Cox’s Bazar marked Bangla Sign Language Day with a rally and discussion on Friday (February 7), organized by the district administration and the Department of Social Services. The theme was “One World, One Language—A Universal Sign Language.”

The rally started from the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office and marched through the town’s main streets. Following the rally, a discussion was held at the DC’s conference hall, where Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin addressed the attendees as the chief guest.

In his speech, the DC emphasized the importance of ensuring the rights of speech-impaired and differently abled individuals. He also highlighted plans to create better educational and skill development opportunities, ensuring their inclusion as productive workforce members.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Nizam Uddin Ahmed presided over the discussion. Other notable speakers included the Assistant Director of the Social Services Department, Md. Safiuddin Safi, District Information Officer Abdus Sattar, and Consultant of the Disability Service and Assistance Center Dr. Saiduzzaman Majumder.

Government officials, speech-impaired individuals, teachers, students, and other stakeholders attended the event, emphasizing the significance of inclusive communication and accessibility.
