Shutki (dried fish) has long been a popular food among the locals of Cox’s Bazar. While tourists once mainly bought it, demand for it has also increased in local markets.
In neighbourhood markets, varieties like Loitta, Rupchanda, and Chingri shutki are in high demand. According to sellers, locals regularly purchase shutki, which remains a staple in their food culture.
With rising demand, supply has also increased. However, concerns over chemically treated shutki persist, prompting authorities to monitor regularly.
