The price of watermelons in Cox’s Bazar has suddenly surged, leaving consumers in distress. With the scorching heat driving up demand for refreshing fruits, vendors have taken the opportunity to raise prices significantly.

At Gol Dighi Par, Mustafa Kamal, a 45-year-old fruit seller, was seen selling watermelons at a much higher price than usual. “Right now, each watermelon costs 80 to 100 taka more than it did just a few days ago,” he said.

“The extreme heat has increased demand for cooling fruits like watermelons, but the supply isn’t sufficient to meet it. That’s why the prices are going up,” Kamal explained.

As a result, ordinary buyers are struggling to afford this summer staple. Many have expressed frustration, accusing sellers of inflating prices due to a lack of market regulation.

Watermelon is a popular choice for staying cool during hot weather, and concerned citizens are urging authorities to ensure price stability to prevent further hardship for consumers.
