Cox’s Bazar city experienced a brief spell of light rain, but it offered little relief from the prolonged sweltering heat. The rain lasted only a minute or two in different parts of the city around midday, leaving residents still grappling with the scorching weather. Instead of cooling things down, the humidity and heat seemed to intensify soon after the drizzle stopped.

In an attempt to beat the heat, many people turned to refreshing fruits and drinks. Street corners saw an increased demand for tender coconuts, watermelons, pineapples, and lemonade, with vendors drawing large crowds.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a well-marked low, causing slight weather changes in coastal areas. The sky over Cox’s Bazar remains partly cloudy, but whether more rain is on the way depends on the movement and development of the low-pressure system.

Locals are hopeful that heavier rain in the coming days might finally bring some much-needed respite from the oppressive heat.
