Farmers in Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar are expecting a bumper harvest of Boro paddy this season, with harvesting activities set to begin within the next few days.
According to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Boro cultivation has taken place on 6,400 hectares of land across the upazila’s five unions—200 hectares more than the target set last year.
Favorable weather, uninterrupted electricity supply for irrigation, the use of modern agricultural technology, and proper crop care have all contributed to the optimism among local farmers.
“Boro paddy has started to ripen across the vast fields. Full-scale harvesting will begin by next week,” said Mustak Ahmed, Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer of Ukhiya Upazila.
Farmers are hopeful that the yield this year will surpass previous records, boosting both their livelihoods and local food security.
