Amid the pleasant winter weather, Nivrite Nishorgo, a nature-rich tourist spot in the Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar, has emerged as an increasingly popular destination for travelers seeking tranquility and greenery.

Surrounded by hills, rivers, and lush landscapes, the spot has been drawing nature lovers daily throughout the winter season.

Located along the banks of the Matamuhuri River in Surajpur Manikpur union of Chakaria, the destination remained largely unexplored for years despite its immense potential. Lack of patronage kept the area out of public attention until it gradually gained recognition after official approval as a tourist spot.

Flanked by towering hills on both sides and cut through by a winding river, Nivrite Nishorgo offers a distinctive geographical charm.

A short boat ride reveals massive white stone hills draped in green, creating a breathtaking panorama.

The calm surroundings—broken only by birdsong, gentle river waves, and the occasional flutter of wings—leave visitors spellbound. At times, sightings of various wildlife species further enhance the experience.

On December 26, 2020, Mohammad Kamal Hossain, the then deputy commissioner of Cox’s Bazar, officially declared the area a tourist spot.

Since then, Nibhritey Nisorg has gradually secured a place on Cox’s Bazar’s growing tourism map as a new and promising destination.

Local resident and CBIU student Abir said the secluded riverside destination has added a new dimension to Cox’s Bazar’s tourism potential. He noted that during the winter season, many visitors prefer Nivrite Nishorgo for its peaceful atmosphere and close connection with nature.

How to Get There

From Chattogram, travellers need to head 120 kilometres south, or 65 kilometres north of Cox’s Bazar, to reach Chiringa in Chakaria. From there, a 12-kilometre journey along the Matamuhuri River by autorickshaw or tomtom—costing around Tk 20–30 per person—takes visitors to Surajpur Manikpur. Boats are then available to explore Nivrite Nishorgo.

One of the main attractions is a crystal-clear waterfall nestled between two hills along the riverbank, adorned with white stones and resembling a vast natural swimming pool.

Local residents say the number of visitors is steadily increasing, and with proper promotion, Nivrite Nishorgo could soon become one of the most enchanting tourist destinations in the region.
