Rabiul Alam Raju, 25, has been a familiar face in Cox’s Bazar since he started working as an assistant cook in a local restaurant in 2015.
However, he started surfing because of his passion, which led him to lifeguard training in 2016.
Raju initially joined as a trainee lifeguard; by 2017, he was volunteering on the beaches.
His dedication then caught the eye of the CIPRB’s Sea Safe Project, and in August 2017, he officially joined as a lifeguard.
To support his family, Raju took on additional work as a deliveryman for Foodpanda in 2021.
In his spare time, he also runs a malai tea shop at Sugandha Point of Cox’s Bazar.
“We have to move forward with struggle. As the family has to run, extra money is needed. With the money I get from lifeguarding, it is not possible to manage in the current situation,” he told the Cox’s Bazar Life.
