A striking display of natural beauty has recently been observed in Rupsi Goalia village of Ukhiya Upazila, where a golden vine has spread across large trees and bamboo groves. Its bright golden strands shimmer in sunlight, enhancing the scenic charm of the entire area.
The plant, commonly known as Swarnalata, Aloklata, golden vine, or dodder (Cuscuta reflexa), is a chlorophyll-free parasitic species that survives by absorbing nutrients from host plants.
According to local sources, the vine is a wild plant that thrives in specific soil types and humid environments. It is known for its hanging stems and delicate structure, with a golden hue that makes it far more eye-catching than ordinary vines.
Local farmer Abdul Haque said that as the sun rises in the morning, the vine’s strands glisten like a cascade of gold. “It is truly beautiful,” he remarked. Children and visitors have been gathering to see the vine and capture photographs.
Tourism stakeholders in Ukhiya believe that the natural beauty of Rupsi Goalia could attract new visitors.
However, they underscored the importance of safeguarding the vine and protecting the surrounding environment.
Residents say tourists are already visiting to admire the vine’s beauty. The golden vine has turned Rupsi Goalia into a new destination for nature enthusiasts in Cox’s Bazar district.
