A large wholesale banana market in the Kasturaghat area of Cox’s Bazar town is witnessing busy trading activities from morning until late at night.

Large bunches of both ripe and unripe bananas were seen hanging in rows across the market, where traders supply bananas brought from different parts of the district to various areas of the town.

A visit to the market showed wholesale traders purchasing bananas from the depot before distributing them to local markets and neighbourhood vendors for retail sale.

The entire market area remains vibrant every day, with hundreds of buyers and sellers present.

Banana trader Halim Ullah said a significant volume of bananas was sold at the market daily from morning until night.

He said a large bunch of bananas was being sold wholesale for Tk 700 to Tk 800, while retail traders later sold individual bunches for Tk 20 to Tk 30.

Traders said the demand for bananas in Cox’s Bazar remains steady throughout the year, with sales increasing further during the tourist season.

They added that the Kasturaghat banana wholesale market plays an important role in the local economy and in the town’s trade activities.
