Under the theme “Protect Women and Girls, Build a World Free from Violence,” Cox’s Bazar observed the International Fortnight for Elimination of Violence Against Women and Begum Rokeya Day with a discussion meeting and an award ceremony honoring outstanding women under the “Joyita Anneshone Bangladesh” initiative.
The District Administration and the District Women Affairs Office jointly organized the event, which took place on Monday in the Deputy Commissioner’s Office conference hall.
In his address as the chief guest, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin emphasized the need for increased investment to ensure sustainable development and women’s empowerment.
He highlighted Begum Rokeya’s immense contributions to women’s socio-economic development and encouraged the award-winning Joyitas to continue working for women’s advancement. He also advocated for increased awareness about the risks associated with child marriage and maternal health.
Government officials, women leaders, social activists, and student representatives spoke at the event.
Seven women entrepreneurs received the Shrestho Joyita award during the event in recognition of their exceptional achievements at the district and upazila levels.
