Betel leaf cultivation plays a crucial role in strengthening the rural economy. In various parts of Cox’s Bazar, farmers are increasingly turning to this profitable crop, utilizing agricultural lands, foothills, and slopes for cultivation.

As a result, an increasing number of rural families now rely on betel leaf farming for their livelihood. For generations, this highly valued cash crop has been a driving force behind the economic sustenance of local farmers, laborers, and traders.

This year, favorable weather conditions have led to a bountiful harvest, and farmers are receiving good prices in the market.

Cox’s Bazar has long been renowned for its premium-quality betel leaves, with Maheshkhali’s sweet betel leaves being particularly famous.

Farmers highlight that compared to many other crops, betel leaf cultivation is more profitable as they can easily sell their produce in local markets, ensuring a steady income.
