The Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Major General Mohammad Ashrafuluzzaman Siddiqui, inaugurated the St. Martin BOP on St. Martin’s Island and the newly constructed Sea-Beach BOP in Teknaf, under the Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB).
During the St. Martin BOP inauguration, the DG highlighted the newly built modern soldiers’ barracks designed to enhance the security, efficiency, morale, and operational capability of the stationed personnel. The upgraded facility is expected to strengthen overall security operations across St. Martin’s Island.
Subsequently, the DG inaugurated the Sea-Beach BOP at Lengurbil, Teknaf. Designed with modern, visually appealing architecture, the facility boasts all necessary amenities. The facility will significantly improve border security and uphold the safety, efficiency, and morale of the deployed BGB personnel.
St. Martin’s Island, located approximately 16 kilometres south of Teknaf, was under the security responsibility of the then Bangladesh Rifles until 1997. Later, the Bangladesh Coast Guard took charge. Considering the strategic importance of the border area, BGB was redeployed to St. Martin’s on 7 April 2019.
With the inauguration of the new BOP, the St. Martin BOP has officially commenced full-scale operations, marking an important turning point in the island’s security infrastructure.
