Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) officials inspected several Durga Puja mandaps in Cox’s Bazar, Ukhiya and Teknaf on Thursday and reviewed security arrangements ahead of the Hindu religious festival.

The Ramu Sector commander and commanders of Ramu Battalion (30 BGB), Ukhiya Battalion and Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB) visited mandaps, exchanged views with Puja celebration committee members and discussed coordination with local administration and other law enforcement agencies.

The Ukhiya Battalion is providing security at six mandaps in the border areas of Ukhiya and Teknaf, with deployment scheduled to continue until the festival ends on October 22.

BGB has adopted a coordinated security plan involving regular patrols, intelligence surveillance, risk assessment, and measures to respond swiftly to potential incidents. The force will also remain alert to rumors, misinformation, and communal incitement.

Nationwide, BGB will provide security at 2,727 Puja mandaps from October 16 to 22, including 1,425 within eight kilometers of the border, 1,119 within three kilometers of battalion headquarters and 183 in remote areas. Eighteen base camps will be established to support security operations.

BGB urged people to avoid spreading unverified information and report suspicious activities to the nearest BGB camp or law enforcement agency, reaffirming its commitment to peaceful celebrations and communal harmony.
