The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has claimed to have prevented 36 Myanmar nationals from illegally entering Bangladesh through the Teknaf border. The group reportedly included 16 men, 5 women, and 10 children. The BGB reports that they are currently in custody.

The incident occurred around 1:30 PM on Sunday (January 5) at the Mendardail border in Teknaf. The group attempted to enter Bangladesh unlawfully, but BGB officials stopped them.

Lieutenant Colonel Ashiqur Rahman, Commanding Officer of Teknaf 2 BGB, revealed in an official statement that the BGB patrol team’s vigilance and proactive measures thwarted the attempt. The statement further mentioned that returning the Myanmar nationals to their country is underway.
