The process is underway to launch a sea-truck service on the Kutubdia-Magnama channel to ensure safer crossings, with plans to begin operations by December. Currently, the Magnama Jetty is under the jurisdiction of the Cox’s Bazar District Council. Officials say that once the jetty is handed over to the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), sea-truck operations can begin swiftly.
Commodore Arif Ahmed Mostafa, Chairman of BIWTA, shared this information while inspecting the Kutubdia Boro Ghop-Magnama channel on Tuesday (15 July) afternoon.
During the visit, BIWTA Chattogram Joint Director Mohammad Selim, Executive Engineer ASM Ashraful Zaman, and Mohammad Kamruzzaman from the Ports and Transport Department were also present.
The BIWTA chairman visited the site to conduct a ground assessment as part of the agency’s policy decision to introduce sea-truck services on the Kutubdia-Magnama route.
