Seasonal mango trading has picked up along footpaths near a petrol pump on the main road in Cox’s Bazar, where vendors are selling the fruit at Tk 100 per kilogram, drawing significant attention from buyers.

Although the mangoes appear yellow and attractive from the outside, several customers have alleged that many of them are not fully ripened.

Despite such concerns, the relatively low price has increased demand among general consumers.

Vendor Kader Hossain said he sourced the mangoes from Teknaf and brought them to Cox’s Bazar for sale. He claimed that he was trying to offer high-quality mangoes at an affordable price.

However, some buyers complained that the fruit, while looking ripe externally, remains firm inside and lacks expected taste.

Even so, many continue to purchase them, taking the risk due to the lower price point.

The sale of potentially unripe mangoes as ripe ones has sparked mixed reactions among consumers.

Concerned observers say increased monitoring is needed to prevent misleading sales practices and protect buyers.
