A bumper yield of amla or amlaki has been recorded this season at the eco-friendly Mermaid Beach Resort, adding a fresh attraction for guests in Cox’s Bazar.

At least 15 amla trees lining the resort’s entrance and parking area are now heavily laden with fruit. In some cases, the abundance is so striking that the leaves are barely visible, creating an eye-catching scene for tourists. Guests have been stopping to take photographs and enjoy the natural beauty surrounding the trees.

According to resort authorities, the trees were planted as part of efforts to preserve the natural environment and promote indigenous fruit species. This year’s favorable weather conditions, along with proper care, have resulted in a higher-than-expected yield.

Amla, or Indian gooseberry, is prized for its taste, nutritional value, and medicinal properties. It is rich in vitamin C, antioxidants, and essential minerals, which help strengthen the immune system and protect the body from common illnesses.

Regular consumption is known to support digestion, improve skin and hair’s health, regulate cholesterol levels, and contribute to better liver function. Health experts suggest that including small amounts of amla in the daily diet can help maintain overall well-being.

Stakeholders believe that such eco-friendly initiatives reflect a commitment to environmental conservation and enhance the attractiveness of tourist destinations, making places like Mermaid Beach Resort more appealing to guests.
