A motivating event titled ‘Career Talks on Job Opportunity Generation for Women and Youth’ was held on Sunday at the Bankkhali Auditorium of the Ramu Upazila Parishad in Cox’s Bazar, with over a hundred local women and youth in attendance.
Organized by Enroute under the ILO’s ISEC Tourism Sector Support Implementation Partnership Initiative, the event saw speakers providing guidance to the participants on the vast employment opportunities in the tourism sector and the necessary skills to acquire.
The Upazila Executive Officer (UNO), Md. Rashedul Islam, the chief guest, attended and welcomed the participants, stating, “A job candidate is primarily evaluated based on their CV, so the preparation of a CV should be given utmost importance.” He highlighted the limitations of the tourism sector, saying, “We still don’t know how to properly promote our tourism globally, but I hope the limitations we face will give rise to new opportunities.”
In the panel discussion, Abu Morshed Chowdhury Khoka, President of Cox’s Bazar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said, “The tourism sector must remain connected with all other sectors. Cox’s Bazar is known as a multi-dimensional tourism spot, with 24 different sectors interconnected with tourism. Therefore, tour guides must be educated and trained so that they can provide accurate information and guidance to tourists.”
ILO’s National Program Manager, M. Navid Akbar, also stated, “Cox’s Bazar holds immense potential in the tourism sector for locals. To harness that potential effectively, one must build skills and expertise.”
Mohammad Mahabbat Ali, Manager of Hotel Prasad Paradise, ILO Consultant Mohammad Mostafikur Rahman, organizers from Enroute International, and representatives from professionals, development sector and government offices were also present.
