Authorities have asked for cautionary signals to be lowered at Cox’s Bazar and the country’s other seaports as a land depression over Myanmar and the adjoining northeastern Bay of Bengal weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area.

The low-pressure system was located over northern Myanmar, southeastern Bangladesh and adjoining areas at 6:00 am on Wednesday, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

The department said the system might move further north-northwest and weaken further.

Following the system’s weakening, cautionary signals issued at Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra seaports have been ordered lowered.

Mohammad Abdul Hannan, assistant meteorologist at the Cox’s Bazar Meteorological Office, said the low-pressure system was currently weak and moving towards the north-northwest.

“As a result, weather conditions in Cox’s Bazar and other coastal areas are expected to gradually return to normal,” he said.
