A grand iftar gathering was held by Cox’s Bazar International University in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday.

The event took place at the hall of Seagull Hotel, where educators, political leaders, journalists, lawyers, social workers, and officials from various government and private organisations participated.

The programme was presided over by the founder and chairman of the university, Lion Mohammad Mujibur Rahman. Registrar Rajidul Haque delivered the opening speech, while Dean Professor Kazi Mustain Billah gave the welcome address.

The programme was moderated by assistant director Imam Khair.

Among the invited guests who spoke at the event were vice-chairman of the trustee board Mahbuba Sultana Shyuli, general secretary of Cox’s Bazar District BNP Advocate Shamima Ara Swapna, president of Cox’s Bazar Poura BNP Rafiqul Huda Chowdhury, vice-chairman of AB Party Jahangir Kasem, acting principal of Cox’s Bazar City College Professor Akhtar Chowdhury, principal of Cox’s Bazar Hashemia Kamil Madrasa Maulana Rahmat Salam, assistant secretary of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Cox’s Bazar District Professor Abu Taher Chowdhury, and district member secretary of National Citizen Party Omar Faruk.

Speakers thanked the founder and chairman, Mujibur Rahman, and all concerned for maintaining a positive academic environment at the university.

The programme began with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an by Hafez Arian Tahmid Raiyan, a student of Tanzimul Ummah Hifz Madras,a Cox’s Bazar Branch.

In his presidential speech, Mujibur Rahman shared the history of the university’s establishment and the challenges it overcame to reach its current position. He said educational institutions are not only centres of knowledge but also places for nurturing moral and human values. Such gatherings during the holy month of Ramadan help strengthen mutual relationships, he added.

Teachers, officials, students, and guardians of the university also attended the programme.

The event concluded with a special prayer conducted by Treasurer Professor Dr Belal Noor Azizi. Chairpersons of various departments, teachers, and university officials were also present. The chairman thanked all members of the organising committee and participants for their cooperation in successfully holding the iftar gathering.
