Construction of the country’s longest runway will propel Cox’s Bazar into a world-class tourist destination. This spectacular infrastructure, stretching over the sea, has the potential to become a landmark not only in Bangladesh but also in South Asia. The project aims to enhance the tourism experience and create new opportunities for international visitors.
The expansion of Cox’s Bazar Airport’s runway, initiated between 2009 and 2013, is critical to its transformation into an international-standard facility. With an investment of approximately BDT 2,000 crore, we are extending the existing 6,775-foot runway to 10,700 feet by reclaiming land from the sea.
Air Vice Marshal Mofidur Rahman, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), emphasized the significance of this project, stating, “This initiative will enable Cox’s Bazar Airport to directly attract international tourists, leading to substantial growth in the tourism industry and a significant boost to national revenue.”
Once operational, the extended runway will accommodate international flights, allowing travelers worldwide to fly directly to Cox’s Bazar. This eliminates the need for lengthy stopovers in Dhaka or Chattogram, making the destination more accessible and convenient.
Experts predict that the expanded airport will revolutionize tourism and bring substantial economic benefits. Cox’s Bazar is poised to become a premier global tourist destination with direct flight options.
The airport’s development marks a transformative step in elevating Bangladesh’s tourism industry to global standards. By offering direct connectivity and showcasing the breathtaking beauty of the Bay of Bengal, this project will firmly position Cox’s Bazar as a gateway to international tourism, paving the way for an exciting new chapter in the region’s growth story.
