“We Can Cox’s Bazar”, in collaboration with CLEAN, Bangladesh Working Group on Ecology and Development (BWGED), and Samajik Biplob, organized a vibrant Chinese New Year 2025 celebration in Cox’s Bazar. The event, part of a larger national initiative, aimed to foster cultural exchange while highlighting the urgent call for increased investments in renewable energy to ensure a sustainable future for Bangladesh.
Themed “Renewal, Prosperity, and Sustainability,” the celebration brought together local communities, policymakers, environmental advocates, and renewable energy experts. The event underscored the crucial need for transitioning to renewable energy solutions to combat climate change and promote sustainable development in Bangladesh. As a global leader in renewable energy innovation, China has emerged as a key partner in supporting Bangladesh’s renewable energy ambitions.
The celebration featured traditional Chinese New Year cultural performances, including lion dances, music, and other festivities. A key highlight of the event was a panel discussion addressing the impacts of climate change on coastal communities and the role of renewable energy in mitigating these effects. The panel emphasized the importance of international cooperation and the potential for green investments in Bangladesh, especially from China.
Speaking at the event, Jahid Islam, Founder of Samajik Biplob, stated, “The Chinese New Year symbolizes hope and renewal. We are requesting the Chinese government to invest in renewable energy.

By celebrating it in Cox’s Bazar, we request the Chinese government invest in renewable energy. “Our coastal regions are facing increasing challenges due to climate change. This celebration is a cultural exchange and a call to action for all stakeholders to collaborate in securing a sustainable future for Bangladesh through renewable energy investments.”
The event concluded with a joint appeal to the Government of China to strengthen partnerships with Bangladesh in the field of green investments, supporting the country’s transition to clean energy.
