Despite being promoted to Joint Secretary, Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Salahuddin and 20 other district commissioners have been reassigned to their existing roles by the government. Other officials who received the same promotion were also placed in their previous offices.
On Sunday, the Ministry of Public Administration notified 193 newly promoted Joint Secretaries to their previous posts and offices in an in situ arrangement.
Last Thursday, the government promoted 196 officials to the rank of Joint Secretary, bringing the total number of officers at this level to 1,039. However, with only 502 permanent Joint Secretaries positions, most newly promoted officials have been retained in their current offices.
Traditionally, Deputy Secretaries and equivalent-ranking officers are promoted to Joint Secretary and placed as Officers on Special Duty (OSD) under the Ministry of Public Administration. DC roles are typically assigned to Deputy Secretaries or equivalent officials. Upon promotion to Joint Secretary, it is customary for them to be transferred from field positions.
